Specialist Obstetrician, Gynaecologist & Specialist Sonologist
Dr Sylvester graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2009 and completed two years of rotations through different specialities within The Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and The Simpson’s Centre for Reproductive Health, giving her a sound medical foundation.
Following this, she emigrated to Australia in 2011 to begin working at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth. She has worked as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist within rural, regional and tertiary settings in Kalgoorlie, Bunbury and Busselton and regional units in Queensland and New South Wales. In 2014 she was welcomed back to King Edward Memorial Hospital to fulfil her career goal of completing Specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr Sylvester achieved her Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FRANZCOG) in 2021. This included an additional two-year fellowship in Diagnostic Ultrasound, working with the Diagnostic Imaging and Maternal Fetal Medicine department at King Edward Memorial Hospital and attaining the ASUM Post-graduate Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU O&G).
Dr Sylvester has a particular interest in early pregnancy complications and management, antenatal screening and diagnosis and fetal monitoring. She is qualified to provide formal ultrasound examinations and interventional Ultrasound procedures if required. She is highly experienced in the management of high and low-risk pregnancies and committed to an exceptional level of care throughout your pregnancy journey, the delivery and the post-partum period. She prides herself on inclusivity, protecting patient autonomy, ensuring informed collaborative decision making, especially around delivery planning, and enjoys the continuity of care that Private work allows.
Feedback from her patients and colleagues always compliments her approachability, clear communication, genuine care and empathy for her patients and the sense of calm, control and trust she brings to the Birthsuite, even in difficult circumstances, as well as a good sense of humour!
Dr Sylvester is located at St John of God Murdoch Hospital as a Specialist Obstetrician and Specialist Sonologist. Dr Sylvester lives locally and is a mother of two young children, both delivered at SJOG hospitals, so she has experienced the hospital from a patient perspective. She practices with integrity and compassion and is passionate about empowering her patients to make informed and supported choices to have a safe and enjoyable start to their new or expanding family life.
The Team
Dr Hannah Sylvester is honoured to join the established and trusted team who have been delivering exceptional care for many years. The rooms are located alongside Dr Sylvester’s colleague, Dr David Mincham.
She strives to provide the same care and attention to each and every patient and to achieve an enjoyable pregnancy journey for you.
On-Call Arrangements
Should you present with an emergency or out-of-office hours, Dr Sylvester will be on-call to provide your care throughout the week. She lives close to SJOG Murdoch and will never be far away if you need her.
However, she cannot be on call all the time, therefore the weekend roster is shared with Dr David Micham, Dr Rhys Bellinge and Dr Chris Gunnell, who will communicate with her even if she is not available in person.
